50 Years of Innovation

This year Curtin is celebrating 50 years since the founding of our predecessor institution, the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT) and 30 years since the establishment of Curtin University. We are celebrating these milestones under the banner of ’50 years of innovation’ with a range of events and activities throughout the year. Corporate Relations is coordinating the planning of central activities, with input from areas across the University. Information about the activities planned is included on the anniversary website.

Internal Communications

The Internal Communications Team has been established to enhance internal communications for staff across the University. We manage the Vice-Chancellor’s Note to Staff and Curtin Weekly, and provide support to key Curtin projects. More information about the services available can be found on the Brand Toolkit.

In most cases our audience is Curtin staff, but we also communicate with students in some instances.

Our key aims are to:

  • Undertake an audit of existing internal communications channels and resources to determine which are most effective, and to identify any gaps
  • Develop an internal communications strategy to enable more effective communications practice across the University
  • Highlight and support the important role line managers play in communicating with their staff and with senior management
  • Develop resources to assist all Curtin staff to enhance their communications skills
  • Increase storytelling about our staff, their achievements, passions and projects, and the contribution the University makes to its communities.

Curtin FM 100.1

Curtin FM is the University’s community radio station, with an audience of around 225,000 regular listeners. We produce and broadcast promotional items for faculties and schools, and interview academics to promote and publicise their work. Our newsroom is a unique training base for students, with graduates often recruited by networks across the country.

John Curtin Gallery

The John Curtin Gallery is one of the largest and most respected university art galleries in Australia. Fostering critical dialogue, our innovative exhibition program complements the international perspective of the University, and contributes to the dynamic and changing culture of Australia and our region. We enliven the intellectual and cultural life of Curtin and its broader communities through exhibitions, events and public programs, and we are also the custodian of the Curtin University Art Collection.
